Abstract
This chapter addresses the question of the length of time that it will take to finish a doctorate and whether or not it can, or should, be done part-time. Getting a doctorate requires enormous focus and hard work. Also, your supervisor may demand certain concrete outcomes, e.g. hardware to be built, new theory to be developed, papers to be written, etc. So, make sure that you are aware that this will not come without effort and dedication.
