Abstract
There are many parallels between a job in academia and a job in industry. The core activities are closer than may be apparent at first glance. To illustrate, we discuss the careers of two individuals; one who made the transition from university to industry and then back to university; the other who held a full-time industrial position but also an adjunct professorship in a university.
