Book cover Cutaneous Adnexal Neoplasms

Abstract

Primary cutaneous cribriform carcinoma seems to be more common in the upper and lower extremities.

Histopathologically this neoplasm shows a well-circumscribed nodular morphology and is composed of epithelial aggregates occupying the dermis sprinkled by small holes. Individual neoplastic cells have a large, rounded, and pleomorphic nuclei surrounded by a scant eosinophilic cytoplasm. In contrast with adenoid cystic carcinoma, neurotropism is not usually seen in cribriform carcinoma.

Immunohistochemically, neoplastic cells of cribriform carcinoma express immunoreactivity for MNF116, AE1/AE3, CAM 5.2, cytokeratin 5/6, cytokeratin 7, CEA, and EMA.

Primary cutaneous cribriform carcinoma is a locally destructive neoplasm, but no metastases from this tumor have been described.
