Abstract

Tubular adenoma and papillary eccrine adenoma are actually a single entity.

The lesion consists of a single, usually hemispherical, well-circumscribed nodule with a smooth surface, and its most common location is on the lower limbs.

Histopathologically shows two components: tubules and cysts, which are present in different amounts. Both structures often show papillary formations that protrude into the lumen and are lined by a double layer of cells. The peripheral layer lining these tubules is composed of basal myoepithelial cuboidal cells, whereas the inner layer is made up of monomorphous columnar epithelial cells.

Immunohistochemistry luminal cells lining the tubules express immunoreactivity for CEA, EMA, and CK7, whereas the peripheral cells express an immunophenotype of myoepithelial cells, with positivity for alpha-smooth muscle actin, calponin, and p63.

Tubular apocrine adenoma is a benign neoplasm, and complete surgical excision is curative.
