Abstract
“Improperly built frames are similar to instruments of torture.”
The crucial part of treatment with the Ilizarov method is to build the frame appropriately. When the frame is built properly, the treatment will be accurate. Otherwise, the treatment will fail, and patient can suffer from pain because of the improper vectoral forces. Building of a proper frame must be included in the planning process. We will not discuss planning here because it has been explained earlier. In this chapter, the principles of frame building, which consists of four rings in a tibial pseudoarthrosis case, will be explained in step-by-step illustrations. Frames may be built with three or five rings but they constitute the exceptions. We will then explain how to build frames in various situations and various regions and the steps in cases of femur deformity and tibial deformity.
