Abstract

A review of recent Acoustic Emission experiments during the compression of synthetic porous SiO\(_2\) (Vycor© and Gelsil) under controlled force rates is presented. The statistical analysis of the recorded signals allows comparison with the statistics of earthquakes from available public seismological catalogues. We discuss different methods to characterize the properties of the individual acoustic emission avalanches and the time correlations between them.
