Abstract
In order to understand the contemporary media mix and innovative activities in 16 different European countries, it is important to understand the history and the current situation of the news media industry, what media innovations are, and which different types of policies exist to regulate and to stimulate creativity and innovative activities. Therefore, this chapter presents a general historical overview of the news media industry, the different forms of innovations and discusses the different types of innovation policies.
