Abstract

A field visit to Hebron, including to the contested Ibrahimi mosque (known to Jews and Christians as the Cave of Machpelah) revealed the depth of Jewish-Palestinian entanglement far inside the occupied Palestinian territory (West Bank), raising questions about the very viability of a two state solution. The situation in Hebron is presented as a case study how the Oslo territorial arrangements (A, B, C) were constraining the Palestinian economy and undermining Palestinian state building efforts. The political reasons why the Oslo process got derailed are highlighted.
