Abstract

In this chapter inventions and devices connected with the fire are presented. These are both for civil use like fire lighting, lanterns and thermal heating of the houses and for military use such as the Greek fire and the ancient flamethrowers. The last paragraph shows the early use of the asbestos as a protection from fire.
