A Retired Navy Medical Officer reflects on personal experiences as Division Surgeon, First Marine Division, during the invasion of Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) in 2003. Family history of military service and combat exposure are discussed. Aspects of preparation for deployment, deployment, and return from deployment are explored. Lessons Learned and Clinical Pearls are provided.
