Identity Memory School Figures: The Adjustment of the Andalusian Identity in the School Through School Textbooks (1978–1993)

Abstract

This work aims to study the transmission and strengthening of Andalusian identity through the image of certain characters born in Andalusia who became subjects of the school curricula in the period corresponding to the adoption of the Spanish Constitution of 1978 until the end of the implementation of the 1970 General Education Law (Ley General de Educación, in Spanish) in 1990. The main objective is to analyse the development given to his construction of identity through the transmission of contents and ideas in the school environment. Importance has been given to characters of three fields: thought, political, and artistic and literary creation. Outcomes show that the nuances of gender are not equally treated in the materials analysed, since more male than female characters are reiterated. In most of the cases analysed, also a local context is better reinforced and transmitted than a regional one.
