Reconstruction of a Natural-Appearing Umbilicus Using a Local Flap

  • Chapter
  • First Online:

Abstract

Various umbilicoplasty procedures have been developed to treat umbilical hernia, navel protrusion, and scarring after umbilical herniation. However, there is no standard method because each center has its own approach to umbilicoplasty, and the goals of treatment differ among patients. In this chapter, the authors will introduce our umbilicoplasty procedure using a reverse U-shaped local flap, which is conducted for a protruding navel, and a method of maintaining the navel recess after surgery. We will also introduce a novel umbilicoplasty method using a local island flap to form a deep umbilicus.
