Abstract
Congenital umbilical hernias are present in approximately 15 % of children with an incidence of incarceration estimated at 1:1,500. Defects of any size may incarcerate, and defects larger than 1.5 cm are unlikely to close. The authors describe the classification of umbilical hernia and discuss the treatment of exomphalos, large umbilical hernia, and exomphalos minor.
