The United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities

Abstract

Article 30 has been the subject of extensive discussion during the travaux préparatoires of the Convention. It provides for the right of persons with disabilities to participate in cultural life and their participation in recreational, leisure, tourism and sports activities in a position of equality with others. We are dealing with another key norm of the Convention. In particular, the provision contains a list of the types of measures that all Contracting Parties have the obligation to adopt in order to ensure the exercise of such right and the inclusion of persons with disabilities in all of the above activities. In addition, it includes special measures for the protection of children with disabilities.
