Abstract
In slowly progressive cancers such as lentigo maligna and lentigo maligna melanoma (LM/LMM), the optimal management may vary widely among different patients. Comorbidity and patient preference should be addressed when discussing treatment options, notably in the elderly population that is often affected, as most cases of LM/LMM are nonfatal. While health related quality of life has not been well-studied in regards to facial LM/LMM and its treatment, this area of research may lend important insights into optimizing disease management. An individualized plan accounting for patient comorbidities, social support, and aesthetic concerns should be developed using a model of shared decision-making.
