Abstract

Hypertensive crises are a common medical emergency. End-organ damage of the brain, aorta, heart, and kidneys in the setting of uncontrolled hypertension define the crisis. The degree of organ damage does not correlate directly with the degree of blood pressure elevation. Prompt treatment with intravenous anti-hypertensive medications is the cornerstone of management.
