Abstract
In the United States and other developed countries, the growing interest in global health among medical students and surgical residents is not just a passing fad, but rather a career choice in academic medicine. Academic Global Surgery (AGS) is becoming a bona fide career track with the goal of improving surgical care delivery in resource-poor settings, through a platform of education, capacity building, and research in addition to clinical care.
