Abstract

This chapter introduces the provenance and premise of the book, including its key theoretical underpinning—Critical Race Theory. It discusses the pressing need to explore internalised racism, particularly in critical literary research representing children’s and young adult literature. Representative works by African American children’s and young adult authors as well as a chapter outline are introduced to provide an overall picture of the book.
