Abstract

This chapter provides a historical analysis of romantic love among ancient civilizations. It explores how a few of the first human civilizations of Egypt, China, Greece, and Rome experience, expressed, and conceptualized love. This analysis within each of these civilizations takes a look at love’s relationship with sex and marriage. Therefore, this chapter highlights the differences between the ancient civilizations discussed in the context of these three concepts.
