Abstract
This introductory chapter focuses on the fundamental explanations of piezoelectricity, pyroelectricity and ferroelectricity. Electromechanical material tensor coefficients for piezoelectric ceramics, equations of state and mutual thermodynamic relations between coefficients are discussed.
