Abstract
This paper proposes a numerical procedure for the generation of sets of synthetic acceleration time histories that result compatible with an assigned target design spectrum. The proposed formulation is able to take into account both the energy distribution in time and the contemporary variability of the frequency content. The approach allows the recognition of strict relations between recorded signals at a site and the underlying evolutionary model recently introduced for the generation of spectrum compatible time histories. A high seismicity Italian area is selected for the numerical example: results are given in terms of synthetic signals whose corresponding spectra versus the design spectrum at the site are compared.
