Abstract

Bone tissue is a specialized connective tissue type. It can be divided into compact bone tissue and spongy bone tissue. Unlike other connective tissue types, the extracellular matrix of bone tissue is mineralized, which makes it hard. The composition of the extracellular matrix and the process of mineralization are described here. The different types of bone cells are also described. Bone formation, growth, and repair are additionally covered in this chapter.
