Compendium of Histology

Abstract

Connective tissue is one of the four basic tissue types. It can be divided into connective tissue proper, embryonic connective tissue, and specialized connective tissue. In contrast to the other basic tissues, it has an abundant extracellular matrix, surrounding the cells. The connective tissue cells and the composition of the extracellular matrix are described here. The different types of connective tissue proper and embryonic connective tissue are additionally described here.
