Radiofrequency Treatments on the Spine

Abstract

Radiofrequency ablation (RFA) of spinal tumors is a challenging technique and appeared only intermittently in the literature since the early 1980s. Recently, multipurpose radiofrequency ablation devices have been employed during the ablation of spinal tumors and during vertebral augmentation. We review the history and progress of these techniques, describing the current status and indications of the techniques and their expected future roles in the treatment of metastatic spinal lesions.
