Abstract
The chapter first introduces dependency grammars for performing syntactic analysis, then moves on to an exploration of semantic frames as providing a structured semantic representation of sentences. Frames are used to describe all kinds of events, and each frame comes with a set of frame elements or semantic roles important in describing the events. The resource FrameNet is presented as a large resource for frames. The chapter details the in-between steps necessary to go from a syntactic interpretation of a sentence, into a frame-based semantic interpretation of a sentence. A comparison between semantic role labeling and relation extraction is also provided. Experiment: Semi-automatic writing of syntactic realizations used for discovering semantic roles in text.
