A Woman Who Has Been Cut: Female Genital Mutilation from a Global Perspective

Abstract

In this chapter, a woman who underwent female genital mutilation (FGM) is presented with its obstetrical, gynecological, and psychosocial consequences. An overview of the international movement against FGM is given. Through this example, social causes for medical conditions and their consequences are illustrated.
