Abstract

Health contributory factors are those factors that tend to affect or influence individual health as well as public and communities’ health. These factors have been related to individual attributes and behaviors (biological and psychological) and to socioeconomic determinants and environmental factors. Factors contributing to health or disease should be a significant part of the diagnostic process due to the importance of understanding the mechanisms by which well-being and problems develop, the need to attend to the whole person who seeks attention, and for optimizing clinical care, in particular prevention and health promotion. The Person-centered Integrative Diagnosis (PID) model has considered that these contributing factors can be classified in two components, the first from the ill-health perspective in terms of risk factors as contributors to disease, and the second from the well-being perspective, in terms of protective factors as contributors to positive health. Health contributing factors are important for both mental and general health. In this chapter the most important contributory factors we will briefly reviewed and some suggestions will be offered for their consideration in PID diagnostic formulations and for future developments in this area.
