Abstract

As long-chain molecular materials, synthetic polymers naturally exhibit structure on a number of scales. We have seen in the earlier chapters, many examples of the consequences of small changes to the chemical configuration on larger scale structure. This interplay between structural scales places great demands on the both the designers of new polymers and on the development of processing routes to provide shaped objects for end users.
