Abstract
In this chapter, the very basic introduction about video compression theory is introduced. In this context, different redundancies which are generally exploited in video compression are discussed in detail. After that, the hybrid video codec is explained in brief. Here, different parts of the hybrid video codec are discussed, and the functionality of these parts is also explained. In extension of this, a little historical background of different video coding standard is also given in this chapter. Finally, this chapter ends with a proper introduction about the rest of the book.
