Assessment for Learning: Meeting the Challenge of Implementation

Part of the book series: The Enabling Power of Assessment ((EPAS,volume 4))

Abstract

This chapter presents the topic addressed in Part II of the book entitled Professional Development and Collaborative Learning about Assessment. It begins by documenting why assessment for learning is challenging and why professional development is important. It then moves on to define what skills are needed to use assessment information to support learning and what practices are suitable indicators of such a competence. A co-regulation model is used to characterize different variations of professional development and collaborative learning. An entire section presents research evidence on the factors and conditions that enable or facilitate successful professional development and collaborative learning. As a conclusion, new perspectives from different chapters of Part II are provided, and recommendations are made on how to move forward in this domain.
