Abstract
This section includes a series of short essays, each of which concludes with words of advice for future researchers who plan to do fieldwork. Drawing on my recollections of living in the West Bank (1995–96), these essays focus on the realities of life in a modest home in the Muslim village of Artas, interpersonal relationships among fieldworkers, and planning for and returning home after the fieldwork experience. Specifically, the essays focus on the bathroom, sleeping arrangements, alternative living arrangements, the arrival of another researcher, interviewing for a job, gift giving, and the immediate experience of returning home.
