Abstract
Light pollution, the scourge of modern astronomy. We can escape it by visiting dark-sky places, but how can we reduce it at home and bring the stars back to the cities? It can be doneāand without switching lights off!
There are two kinds of light ā the glow that illumines, and the glare that obscures.

The Moon and the stars no longer come to the farm. The farmer has exchanged his birthright in them for the wattage of his all-night sun. His children will never know the blessed dark of night.
