Abstract

In Brazil, chronic venous disease has a high prevalence, affecting the quality of life of patients and representing significant socioeconomic impact, leading to a high annual cost to public budget. Lower limb varicose veins are the 14th cause of absence from work for over 20 years, according to the Brazilian Ministry of Health. Surgical treatment is the most frequently used, particularly in the Public Health System, but recent techniques of thermal and chemical ablation have been used with increasing frequency. The aesthetic concern is a major concern for the population in this tropical country, and sclerotherapy of spider and reticular veins is a widely performed procedure, in association or not with laser or intense pulsed light.
