Abstract
On a beautiful May morning in 1979, I walked across the steps of Wilson Hall at James Madison University to receive my first college degree. I heard my father’s cheering voice bouncing off the surrounding buildings when my name was read. I shook the president’s hand, waved at my family, then smiled, waved again, and thanked my professors in the Department of Library Science and Educational Media. After I walked past them, the head of the department turned to the rest of the faculty and said, “There goes the most unorthodox Library Science major in the history of our program.”
