Abstract
The study of turbulent wakes generated by fractal/multiscale objects is part of the broader field of fractal/multiscale-generated turbulence. The introduction of fractal/multiscale plates and the study of their wakes has revealed the existence of non-equilibrium wake laws which have general validity beyond just these plates. These plates have also revealed the universal length-scale which serves to define their Strouhal number and have potential for applications where one might want to reduce vortex shedding intensity and vibrations without modifying surface area and vortex shedding frequency.
