Abstract
Here we introduce the system of units. We recall the main equations of nonrelativistic quantum mechanics and quantum electrodynamics that we employ in this book. We single out two regions for the values of the recoil momentum. In the region of small recoil momentum called the “Bethe ridge,” the characteristics of a process with participation of the bound electrons are expressed in terms of the process on the free electrons. The electron functions at large recoil momenta are calculated using the Lippmann–Schwinger equation .
