Abstract

We investigate the dynamics of a dichloromethane droplet placed on the surface of an aqueous solutions of cetyltrimethylammonium bromide. By varying the surfactant concentration, we observe a rich variety of different shapes, ranging from pulsating over rotating to polygonal-like shaped drops, during the dissolution process. These remarkable shapes seem to be the result of the complex interplay between numerous processes including solubilization, evaporation, mass transfer and adsorption of the surfactants at the water/oil interface.
