Abstract

The original laparoscopic and robot-assisted radical prostatectomy techniques mostly described a single-layer interrupted or running layer urinary anastomosis—the later quite popular with the robotic technique. In this chapter, we present the description, evolution, and modern outcomes for adding a second layer to the reconstruction that adds backbone and reduces tension on the primary layer. Although the effect on urinary continence is debatable in the long term, many surgeons still prefer this for tension relief and added hemostasis.
