Abstract
The chest wall creates the outer covering of the chest and shelters the organs inside the thorax. Due to its mobility and the structure of the wall, which is comparable to a cage, it plays an active role in the function of breathing. It is mandatory to know the topographical and functional anatomy to successfully perform interventions in and on the chest.
