Abstract

Aristotle often is credited with the first written use of the word in his fourth century BC treatise Mechanics (Greek Mechanae), also translated as Mechanical Problems. The ideas presented in this manuscript are Aristotelian in content; however, there is considerable dispute as to whom actually wrote the treatise (Winter 2007; Dugas 1988).
