Abstract

Hip arthroscopy and FAI treatment present challenges to mastery as well as to education. Some studies suggest competency in hip arthroscopy after 30 procedures. This should be interpreted with caution, however, as few studies exist and most involve one surgeon with simple arthroscopic cases only. Likely, 60–90 reconstructive procedures are required for competency due to the high complexity of hip arthroscopy and particularly treatment of FAI. Skills labs and simulations may offer avenues for supplemental training in hip arthroscopy. Standardization of teaching FAI treatment and hip arthroscopy is lacking. Evidence-based recommendations must be established and should be based on level of training, continued education, and collaboration.
