Abstract

During the last decades, the technical improvement in clinical, abdominal radiological, and endoscopic imaging techniques leads to an increased detection and finest characterization of previously mostly underdiagnosed/misdiagnosed pathological entities such as pancreatic cystic neoplasms. This kind of lesions displays an overall prevalence up to 20 % and a biological spectrum that nuances from benign to malignant behavior.

Particularly in the setting of malignant disease, there is lack of evidences about possible neoadjuvant and adjuvant treatments that could be complementary to surgery. In this book chapter, we will try to provide an as much as possible complete, evidence-based overview on all the possible medical treatments of the pancreatic cystic tumors considering both possible neoadjuvant and adjuvant treatments in the setting of IPMNs and cystic lesion other than IPMNs.
