Abstract
There are myriad psychological factors that affect the eventual outcome of treatment for erectile dysfunction (ED). This chapter will attempt to convey to the practicing physician that these factors, while not always the direct cause of ED, will nonetheless have an impact on treatment outcome. Particular emphasis is given to consideration of the partner’s role in the treatment process. Case examples are provided in an effort to illuminate the variety of psychological issues that may influence the etiology, exacerbation, maintenance, and successful resolution of ED.
