Abstract
This chapter continues to explore uses of cultural understandings in the contemporary interconnected world. At one end, there is a global ecumene of widely shared meanings and meaningful forms, and a flow of such culture in open networks. At the other end, there is the unique cultural repertoire carried by a single individual. In between, there are groups of shifting size, location and durability, with their particular cultural characteristics. Varied recent concerns of scenario writers are related to this view: the “Davos Club,” varieties of cosmopolitanism, the Arab Spring and its “Square People,” terrorist microcultures.
