Abstract
This chapter will comprehensively address endocrine emergencies beginning with disorders of glucose control including diabetes mellitus, hyperglycemia, and hypoglycemia, and specific life-threatening disorders of the thyroid including thyroid storm and myxedematous states. Adrenal disorders are discussed as well as their specific diagnosis and treatment. Primary causes of many of these disorders are discussed as well along with the diagnosis and treatment of these conditions. Finally, electrolyte abnormalities are described along with their assessment and treatment. It will additionally provide the learner with information regarding laboratory assessment if required as well as with information regarding imaging (if required) that is essential for passing examinations.
