Abstract

This chapter will comprehensively address obstetric and gynecologic emergencies beginning with pelvic inflammatory disease followed by infections and abscess in and around the vaginal area. Ovarian emergencies including torsion and cyst processes are discussed. Maladies related to dysfunctional uterine bleeding are next discussed followed by gynecologic cancer. Pregnancy-related emergencies including ectopic pregnancy and other entities including miscarriage are fully detailed. Other emergency topics discussed include eclampsia, placental processes, and peripartum emergencies. This chapter will additionally provide the learner with information regarding laboratory assessment if required as well as with information regarding imaging (if required) that is essential for passing examinations.
