Abstract

Despite claims to the contrary, sleep duration in children has changed little over the last century, even improved in some countries. Similar conclusions to those of adults apply to the extent to which sleep debt relates to children and their obesity. Adolescence brings its own essential changes to sleep, accompanied by the debatable ‘need versus desire’ for lie-ins and whether school start times should be delayed.
