Abstract
Borooah reviews the major developments in Indian politics from independence in 1947 till the latest Parliamentary General Election of 2014. He discusses the three pillars of India’s identity—democracy, unity, and secularism—and shows the influence of democracy on India’s unity and on the concept of secularism that it has adopted.
