Abstract
This chapter provides the context in which China’s current workplace English proficiency level is evaluated. Workplace English training is in great demand, but is not sufficiently effective in solving the international communication problems. The aim of this book is to evaluate the workplace English training programs, identify the factors that facilitate or hinder their training effectiveness, and explore their benefits. The significance and key features of this book are to construct an evaluation framework, bridge the gap in professional practice, and facilitate policies promoting workplace English training and learning. This chapter provides two clearly focused research questions and specifies target audiences along with an outline of the book. The definitions of some key terms throughout the book are provided.
