Abstract

Vulvar cancer is an uncommon malignancy with approximately 5,000 new cases and 1,100 related deaths per year in the United States. The majority of cases are squamous cell carcinoma, but approximately 10 % are less common histologic types including melanoma, basal cell carcinoma, sarcoma, Bartholin’s gland carcinoma, verrucous carcinoma, and Paget’s disease of the vulva. This chapter reviews the epidemiology, presenting symptoms, treatment, and prognosis for each of these rare, non-squamous cell vulvar tumors. Because there are limited studies describing these uncommon entities, the recommended treatment is often similar to the more common squamous cell carcinoma of the vulva. Additional research is needed to determine the optimal management for these rare vulvar malignancies.
